To end the year with a bang, I'm finally able to implement some math games that tie in with our fraction and geometry units! First up, we used our polygon blocks to make shapes, but added a fifth-grade twist: once the students made the images, they had to write the names of the shapes inside each one. Our fraction activity was playing the card game War but with fractions! Whoever laid down the larger fraction gets to keep both cards! This was a bit of a challenge because some fractions needed to be simplified, and some cards actually had percentages on them! The partners had lots of fun.
