We are continuing our Human Rights unit in writing and social studies to tie in what rights we've learned to a specific story! I remember reading this when I was in school and am so excited our fifth grade has a chance to explore the story of Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. We are going to be making many connections between Esperanza's story and the rights her family had, and had taken away, to rights we've discussed from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the first hand accounts we've studied during our tests. So far the students are so excited to see what the next chapters hold!
