St. Nicholas Day

Today is St. Nicholas Day! This is a huge tradition in my family, because we are German. Every year we open stockings, because the tradition of stockings came from St. Nicholas. He was known as the "bearer of gifts" in Europe and left treats in the shoes of the good children.

Tonight our class might get a visit from St. Nicholas! We are all making shoes to see if he leaves anything for us! I love this season of anticipation :)

We also watched a clip of one of my favorite films, and now all of the students are hooked! We made our own "brown paper packages tied up with strings" that we wrote our favorite things on.
